Towards the end, Nirmal travels back to his house in Mumbai with Rohan, and calls a TV news channel from there and demands all those who were involved in the bridge collapse, including the Home Minister, come to his house and also the news anchor to broadcast it to the people, threatening to kill Rohan and himself if they don't. The news becomes a hot item in the media. Moved and depressed by his loss, Nirmal decided to seek revenge from the politicians and others responsible for the death of his son.

Apu died when a bridge collapsed on him on his way to school. It is then revealed that Nirmal had a happy family with his son, Apu (short for Apurva) after his wife left them. His demand is that he wants his son, who was lost in an act of negligence by the government, to be found. One day, Nirmal calls Cheeku's father to convey a message to the Home Minister that Rohan was abducted on purpose. Nirmal keeps traveling via public transport to evade his location. Nirmal tells Rohan that Cheeku will be killed if he refuses to co-operate with him. Nirmal shows Rohan a pre-recorded video of his friend Cheeku who is in a drugged state struggling with fear. Rohan shows his anger towards Nirmal for kidnapping him. Rohan is actually kidnapped by Nirmal after being drugged by him. Behind the scenes, the security agencies try to find the location of the kidnapper without raising any kind of suspicion. Initially, the case is thought of mistaken identity wherein the kidnapper might have tried to kidnap the friend of Rohan, Cheeku who was also drugged while kidnapping.įor a long time, there is silence from the kidnapper and everyone is left guessing as who it might be, and at the same time the investigation is kept extremely secret, so as to keep the kidnapper(s) from killing Rohan. CBI officer Nachiket Verma heads the case and gets restrain orders from all the other security agencies to make sure that the kidnappers don't panic and kill Rohan. Rohan is the only son of the Home Minister. But, by the end of it, you find yourself wondering, 'why beat the drum we all have heard a hundred times'.A 10-year-old child, Rohan, is kidnapped from his hostel. That efficiency would have helped if there was a saving grace in the screenplay or at least some wit as it was promised early in the movie.

The low-budget movie fails to strike a chord as the flat OST and insipid dialogues only do the job, nothing more. The movie could have been better had the chemistry between Nirmal and the 8 year old son of the home minister, Rohan, evolved. Everyone knows about it and yawns over it. Poking fun at media or the politicians is now passe, as passe as young couples blaming housemaids. But, the ending is wishful thinking mostly and boring. You go through the pace, the travails, Nirmal's flashbacks, the journeys waiting for the ending that was meant to be sensational. It is like a well-made movie bereft of story. The movie is taut but the screenplay lacks novelty. But, beyond that, neither the story, nor the Stockholm Syndrome that the screenplay involves (Irrfan and the 8 year old kid even discuss this) inspire much enthusiasm. Irrfan brings in shades of lunacy in his character while Jimmy maintains his dry wit and serious demeanor that has now become his trademark style. The message is as insightful as the statements, 'The sun rises in the east' or 'Rahul Baba has an IQ below 50.' Irrfan Khan and Jimmy perform really well. A 'lucky break for the cops' helps the movie go forward, the kind of lucky breaks that logical movies generally avoid. That means, underneath the debris of all the issues of tragedy and loss the cops under Nachiket (Jimmy Shergill) have too much to do. To attract attention to the issue, Nirmal kidnaps the home minister's son from a boarding school (despite the threat the home minister dries up the security for political mileage) and as ransom demands that the issues be dug out, culprits found and punished. But, that is tested when the kid dies under a collapsed bridge. Madaari is about Nirmal (Irrfan Khan) whose wife leaves him and his child in search of greener pastures. Madaari turned out to be a well-made movie, but not one that'll jolt you out of your reverie, like the tagline Desh So Raha Hai claims. Common sense dictates that the director, Nishikanth Kamat was confident of the movie delivering more surprises along the way. Madaari's trailer unabashedly revealed its two crucial plot points - a man has lost his child and that man is out for vigilante justice. Review Madaari & earn 20 DM Points.* Review Submit
